"I changed Wednesday's lines myself, it was almost unprofessional" - Voila! culture

Jenna Ortega, who plays Wednesday in the hit Netflix series, says that the original scripts completely missed the character of the Addams girl, so much so that she had to veto

Meet: Wednesday Addams (Netflix)

Jenna Ortega did not spare her opinion from the writers of "Wednesday" during the filming of the series, and it happened at such a level that the actress already felt that she was acting unprofessionally, as she told the actor Dax Shepard ("Full-Time Parents") in his podcast, "Armchair Expert" ("Expert lounge chair").

Ortega said that many of the original scripts of "Wednesday" did not make sense to her when it came to the character of the heroine, the girl in the Addams family house, so much so that during filming the actress changed dialogues without consulting the writers.

"I don't think I've ever had to veto the set more than I had to on 'Wednesday,'" she said.

"Everything Wednesday does, everything I had to play, didn't make sense for her character at all. To be in a love triangle? It didn't make sense. There was a line about a dress she had to wear to a prom at school, and she goes, 'Oh my God, I love This. Ugh, I can't believe I said that. I really hate myself.'

I had to say 'no.' There were times on this set that I even became almost unprofessional, in the sense that I just started changing lines. The script guy thought I was going to do something and then I had to sit down with the writers, and they said, 'Wait, what happened to the scene?' And I had to start explaining why I can do certain things."

One of Ortega's gripes with the character was the overly one-dimensional way in which she was portrayed in the original script.

Things that suited Wednesday as a young girl are less suitable for her character as a teenager.

"I became very, very protective of her," added the actress.

"You can't lead a story without having an emotional arc, because then it's boring and nobody likes you. When you're little and say very sick and offensive things, it's funny and cute. But then you become a teenager and it's disgusting and you know it. There are fewer excuses." .

Ortega's conceptions took their toll and her character was shaped according to her advice.

Of course, it was worth insisting - "Wednesday" became one of the most successful series in Netflix history.

In fact, after "Stranger Things" it is the most watched English-speaking series of the streaming giant worldwide.
