About two and a half months ago we revealed the first photos of the second generation Hyundai Kona.

The exterior presents a completely new design language, which by the way we will also meet in the future Sonata and the new Accent (which is not expected to arrive here).

In the passenger cabin there is a fundamental change compared to the simplicity of the current generation, mainly with the adoption of the driver's environment of the Ionique 5 on the layout of the dashboard and the multimedia system on one large surface and a gear selector located on the side of the steering wheel and not as usual between the front seats.

The dimensions have increased significantly: an additional 15 cm in length which has increased to 4.35 meters, an additional 2.5 cm in width (now 1.82 meters), an identical addition to the height (1.575 meters) and an additional 6 cm to the wheelbase (2.66 meters). The trunk has increased to 466 liters, which is 134 more than before. The source of the increase? Using the platform it shares with the new Kia Niro and the fact that since the previous generation, the small Hyundai Honyo and the Bayon have been added to the offer of the Hyundai, which required an increase in the buyer in order to distinguish it from them. Another proof that Hyundai has already Consider the Kona a true family crossover? Now it also has a rear air conditioning outlet.

Hyundai is now releasing more details about the powertrains.

In the gasoline and hybrid fields there are no big news and the providers are the same as those already in the outgoing generation, not surprising - most of the manufacturers no longer want to invest money in the development or improvement of propulsion units with internal combustion, in their opinion it is a waste of money when their employment horizon is very limited.

The engines relevant to us are those mated to a 7-speed automatic-robotic gearbox with 7 gears, that is, not the 1.0-liter 120 hp engine, but the 1.6-liter turbocharged one with 198 horses. Next to it is the hybrid unit - 1.6-liter atmospheric with an electric unit which provide 141 hp in common.

The same drive units from the current buyer.

The more significant changes are in the electric versions.

Here Hyundai actually invested in upgrades.

For example, the front-wheel drive entry version will now be powered by 155 horses (instead of 136) and the battery will have a capacity of 48.4 kWh (39.2 kWh).

The result: the range increased from 305 km to 342 km.

The long-range version uses 65.4 kWh batteries (64 in the outgoing generation) and the power increases to 217 hp (compared to 204 hp). The improvement in the range of this version is marginal - six kilometers more which raises it to 490 declared. The

schedules Arrival in Israel is set for the last quarter of 2023 for the gasoline and hybrid versions, while we will only see the electric version here in the first quarter of 2024.
