Ford Escort, the classic car most loved by the British (photo: Car & Classic)
They can be a reminder of the car we grew up in the back seat of, the first one we bought with our money, the one we dreamed of in our youth and now we can drive it or just a desire to re-experience the world of "once upon a time" before the amazingly efficient cars that drive us today.
No matter which way you come to the world of collector cars, this story is first and foremost emotional and personal.
And yet, even within this emotional world it is possible to stop and measure, count data and connect pieces of information.
This is exactly what the British website Car & Classic did, which has been active since 2005 and where, according to reports, 30,000 ads for the sale of collector cars are published at any given moment.
The site is now publishing the ranking of the most wanted classic cars in 2022 according to the number of searches for the model.

The ranking is led again this year by the Ford Escort, which was the most decorated car on the site, and it doesn't matter if it is modern and less desirable versions such as the Escort Cabriolet from 1993 (sold for £1.200 - NIS 5,245) to the icing on the cake - the Ford Escort RS1600 from 1971. Which is not only The ultra rare version of the first generation of the Escort, with the BDA twin cam engine based on Cosworth's Formula 2 engine, but also a unique example specially built to serve as a press demo car (not sure why that's a good thing, but there it is), with an ownership history Documented for the last 50 years. The price at which the car was bought? 66 thousand pounds - NIS 288,487.
By the way, Ford, the Escort, along with the Capri and the Cortina make up 50% of all searches for Ford models on the site.
The Mustang is in decline compared to last year and compared to it the small Fiesta actually registered an increase in searches, possibly due to the announcement of the cessation of production of the model during last year.
Ford is also the most requested brand according to the website among the car manufacturers.

Jaguar E-Type, one of the most beautiful cars in the world in third place (photo: manufacturer's website)
In second place is Triumph, with two models, the Stag and the TR6, proving that despite the reputation of the British car industry, it is actually two models of this car manufacturer that slowly faded until it finally died out in 1984. In third place is Jaguar (up from fourth place in 2021
) Both as a brand and as a model, where the E-tape is in third place in demand.
After Jaguar in the ranking of brands in the fourth, fifth and sixth places are three German manufacturers - Porsche, Volkswagen and BMW.
However, these are not their positions in the list of requested models.
Because in this list, BMW is actually in fourth place with the 3 Series of the 80s, known as the E30 from BMW's modern classics and one of the most successful and successful of the manufacturer's cars.
In fifth place in the list of models is the Volkswagen Golf.

And after the German break, the British manufacturers return to the rest of the list with MG, Land Rover and Rover in places 6-9.
The list is closed by a brand that you would not necessarily associate with a manufacturer of collector or classic cars - Toyota.
Back to the list of models, after the 3 Series in fourth place, the ranking continues for the Volkswagen Golf, MG MGB, Land Rover Series 3 (the generation that preceded the Defender), the Mini Minor in ninth place, and the list closes with the Toyota MR2, the small sports car with the central engine.
As you have noticed and as you will see below, in the lists of the most disguised brands and models there is always no overlap between the disguised brands and the models themselves.
As for example in the case of Porsche.
The difference is that in some cases, the search is "spread" over more models than the others.
In Porsche, for example, the search covers a variety of models starting with the 356 and ending with the 911 (the most decorated model, by the way, was the 924).
