A car break-in didn't end well for a 16-year-old.

Criminals tamper with cars for a variety of reasons: Catalytic converters are currently particularly popular – they can bring in a lot of money for scrap dealers because of the valuable metals.

But other "spare parts" for vehicles are also in demand, as the owner of a BMW that was almost completely dismantled in just one night had to realize some time ago.

And of course there are still the "classic thieves" who are primarily interested in valuables in the interior.

Such a man was now tampering with a small car in North Rhine-Westphalia - but for him the burglary ended in a rather embarrassing situation.

As the police reported, a 22-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman went for a walk with their dog in Bedburg shortly before midnight.

They noticed "suspicious movements" in the trunk of their Renault Twingo.

Apparently someone was tampering with it.

The man approached the car and closed the trunk lid, the woman then quickly locked the vehicle using the radio remote control – the criminal was trapped.

According to the officials, the suspect - a 16-year-old - had apparently broken open the sunroof of the French microcar with a tool and then rummaged through the glove compartment and trunk.

Police officers finally freed him from the latter, who also seized a pair of pliers as the alleged instrument of the crime.

The 16-year-old was handed over to his educators.

Now the 16-year-old has to answer for the suspicion of the particularly serious case of theft.

Incidentally, he could have escaped relatively easily in the USA – because there it is mandatory that a trunk can be unlocked from the inside.
