Tel Aviv Mayor Ron Huldai was a guest tonight (Saturday) on the program "Meet the Press" on Channel 12 and harshly attacked the presenter Amit Segal, who hosts the program alongside Ben Caspit.
"Let me tell you something - the way you write, speak and do - encourages a dictatorship. The role of the press - to preserve democracy. You encourage the dictatorship."
About a month ago, Huldai caused a stir when he said that Israel is on its way to becoming a dictatorship, and that the way back from this process requires bloodshed.
"According to history, countries can turn from democracy to dictatorship - but they only come back with bloodshed," he said in an interview with News 13 from the demonstration complex against the legal reform in Jerusalem.
After the interview, Huldai published a clarification of his words: "I will explain that there are those who deliberately mislead them for personal gain. In the interview I spoke about a painful historical truth. The responsibility for preventing bloodshed rests with those who decide in the Knesset and turn Israel into a dictatorship. They have the duty to stop the legislative process, to reach negotiations and prevent it," he said.
