A mysterious man wearing a hat who photographed a new work by Banksy on a soon-to-be-demolished building is fueling speculation that he is the anonymous street artist known as "Banksy" who has eluded the public eye for years.
A British TV crew spotted the man - wearing a long black coat and glasses - taking pictures on his mobile phone shortly after the demolition of the building and the Banksy painting were reported.
Eyewitnesses told KMTV channel reporter Sophia Akin that the same person was there the day before, taking pictures even before it was known that a painting of Banksy had been painted.
"It's Banksy," construction workers at the site confidently told the reporter.
They said they saw him with a crew even before it was reported that Banksy's work was painted on the building.
Akin also said that she asked that "Banksy" to be interviewed but he refused.
According to her, his team filmed him talking to the construction workers, but he then left the scene.
Other eyewitnesses said that they asked him if he was Banksy and he laughed in response and did not deny it.
"I think it was just Banksy," said an eyewitness.
"It's amazing that it's him and he just walked past me."
