2023-03-23T10:10:49.585Z

The new top of the range of the South Korean brand mark an evolution in several sections. The details.

Samsung

's premium

Galaxy

cell phone family

, the world's leading manufacturer, competes internally between its latest "tanks":

S22 Ultra

and the brand new

S23 Ultra

.

The latest devices in the Galaxy S family were released a year apart, but in the same February.

The S22 Ultra arrived three months after its virtual announcement, while the most recent made its first appearance in the country on the same day it was unveiled in San Francisco.

The Galaxy S22 Ultra and S23 Ultra, which stand out for the capacity of their

multiple cameras

, as well as for having the latest generation of processors at the time of their launch, also stand out for the sustainability of the materials with which they were manufactured.

Some time ago Samsung announced its environmental strategy with the goal of reducing its carbon emissions to zero by 2050, which is why they adopted sustainable methodologies for their production process.

The Galaxy S23 series used even

more recycled materials

than the Galaxy S22 series, including aluminum, glass and plastics from discarded fishing nets, and polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles.

In total they are 12 against 6 of the previous generation.

Additionally, all Galaxy S23s come in redesigned boxes made from 100% recycled paper.

Processor

The Galaxy S23 Ultra comes with the

new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor

that offers better performance and power efficiency when compared to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor in the Galaxy S22 Ultra.

As for memory and storage, both share 12 GB and 256 or 512 GB depending on the configuration.

To this is added the fingerprint reader under the screen, connectivity with computers with the Windows operating system through Samsung Dex, the presence of the intelligent assistant Bixby, a rival to Google Assistant, but of South Korean development and the S-stylus pen. Pen.

Camera

The cameras of the S23 Ultra are more powerful and with a better finish in terms of design than the S22 Ultra version.

The Galaxy S23 Ultra is the first of the cell phones in this family with an

improved rear camera with a 200 MP main sensor

, a 12 MP ultra-wide-angle camera and two 10 MP telephoto lenses each.

The system is completed with two 10 MP telephoto cameras with a 3x and 10x optical zoom.

In addition, this premium model has a new laser autofocus (PDAF) sensor and noticeable improvements in OIS optical stabilization for still shots even in low light conditions.

These technical features help, among other things, to capture images of the Milky Way through the Astrophoto function, either within the camera menu by selecting the 300x function within Hyperlapse without the need to add special equipment.

Of course, you will have to keep the device stable with a tripod.

As a first for this generation, the Galaxy S23 Ultra incorporated this new sensor with Adaptive Pixel technology that captures images with unprecedented precision in this family of cell phones and improved, at least when compared to the 108 megapixels of the S21 or S22 Ultra version. .

To achieve this, the phone uses the function called pixel binning (pixel grouping) to support multiple levels of high-resolution processing at the same time.

Artificial intelligence makes possible the convergence of 16 megapixels into a large one, to form a photograph of better quality and with the best possible lighting, even to be able to print it as a banner.

Like the previous version, the cameras of this new S23 Ultra model also incorporate the Expert RAW function that allows the user, among other things, to edit images without processing by the phone software in the style of a professional DSLR camera in RAW format. and JPEG.

In addition, it improved in resolution: from 12 to 50 megapixels.

The new design of the Samsung cameras broke with the camera modules with the S22 Ultra to adopt a more minimalist one in which the cameras protrude from the body.

In the previous generation, for example, the rear of the phone

for the first time showed 4 cameras without a pattern that unifies the whole set

, as it was the case with the 2021 model.

The device has a 108-megapixel main sensor capable of recording in 8K and detecting up to 10 subjects in the scene for autofocus.

In addition to an ultra wide angle of 12 MP and 120 degrees.

The system is completed by two 10 MP telephoto cameras with 3x and 10x optical zoom.

When it comes to video, the innovation that the S23 Ultra introduces unlike the S22 Ultra is in the 8k capture mode.

While the brand new device goes up to 30 fps (frames per second or frames per second) to give more fluidity to the images, the previous model stayed at 24fps.

The

main difference

between the two teams can be seen on the front, precisely

the selfie camera

.

The main sensor of the S22 Ultra is 40 megapixels against only 12 Mp of the S23 Ultra.

Of course, both record video in 4K up to 60fps.

Screen

The Galaxy S23 Ultra has a 6.8-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with an adaptive refresh rate of up to 120Hz for a smoother, sharper viewing experience than the 6.8-inch display on the Galaxy S22 Ultra.

Although they share dimensions, the main difference in this section is in the protection of the screen:

Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2

, is the evolution of Gorilla Glass Victus Plus of the S22 Ultra.

According to the manufacturer, this glass is even more resistant to certain particularly difficult materials and safe against falls, such as asphalt from a height of two meters.

Battery

The Galaxy S23 Ultra and Galaxy S22 Ultra share the largest battery that a cell phone can currently have with

5000 mAh

and approximately

more than 24 hours of charge

.

The difference is in the

45W fast charging function,

with the option to charge wirelessly up to 15W, which further optimizes charging times.

In the case of the S23 Ultra, it can register 65% just by having it connected to the electrical network for 30 minutes.

Design

The design of the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra is practically identical to what we appreciate from the last generation.

This latest version has a slightly different design with a larger camera module and a metal frame instead of the glass frame of the Galaxy S22 Ultra.

The back has the same impression to the touch and offers similar sensations.

A matte finish where fingerprints are somewhat marked and dust is trapped in the huge lenses.

Something similar happens with the edges.

The side buttons are covered in aluminum and are firmer than those of the 2022 model. Meanwhile, the sides are now completely flat, losing the slight curvature of last year.
