Those containing furocoumarins are photosensitizing and therefore toxic under the effect of ultraviolet rays.
“There are many of them among
aromatic plants
(parsley, common fennel, dill, angelica, etc.) and fruit trees: fig trees, lemon trees… Enough to cause sometimes intense skin burns with redness, pain and blisters on uncovered areas, several hours after being in contact with one of these plants and exposed to the sun
,” remarks Dr Sandra Sinno-Tellier (ANSES).
It can also be a handling error: euphorbia should not be handled without gloves and without glasses because in the event of the sap splashing into the eye (if a leaf or stem is cut), the irritation can go as far as corneal ulcer (keratitis).
