Every taxi has it: the yellow sticker on the rear window.
But why and what is the meaning behind the sticker?
The choice of stickers for the car is almost endless.
Whether it's the logo of your favorite team, a stylized fish or the outline of the North Sea island of Sylt.
Drivers voluntarily stick these on the rear, but some stickers are also mandatory.
For example, a blue and white sticker on rental cars and taxis also have a yellow and black sticker on the rear window.
But why and what is its meaning?
This question can be answered relatively simply: It is the so-called order number or license number.
This has been mandatory for every taxi since 1975 and is issued by the licensing authority.

The license plate with the serial number must therefore be attached to the bottom right of the rear window.
In addition, it must be legible from the outside and inside.

The width (15 centimeters) and height (70 centimeters) of the sticker are also specified.
The same applies to the size of the numbers and their spacing.
The ordinal number itself usually consists of several numbers.
In Berlin, this is often the same as the combination of numbers on the license plates of the taxis.

In addition to the sticker with the serial number, the taximeter and the taxi sign on the roof are also mandatory.
The latter tells the passenger whether the vehicle is free or already carrying another person.
But it also has another important function.
