To be honest, in the hierarchy of motor sports, drag racing is not highly regarded.

You can also understand why, in the bottom line, the skill level of holding a car in a straight line for 400 meters (402 meters to be exact) - doesn't exactly pose a challenge compared to the skills required of track, rally, drift drivers and more.

In addition, this is probably also the sport where the driver's abilities are dwarfed by those of the car in terms of the effect on the final result.

And yet, time and time again there is no escaping the simple conclusion - when it comes to the ability to excite an audience - there are very few motor sports or even sports that provide such overflowing portions of action, "It's an orgasm every 10 seconds" as defined by Michael Chen, the mighty force behind events The leading motor sports in Israel.

We were already impressed by the performance capabilities in the hill climb race in the introduction of Hama earlier this year in its production.

And large amounts of action were definitely in the 3rd round of the Israeli drag racing championship hosted at the old runway in Dimona - with 80 contestants on the first day of the competition, the best of whom advanced to compete in the final held the next day.

As is customary in these races, the cars were divided into three main groups, with front, rear and dual wheel drive, where in each of the groups there is a subdivision for cars licensed for the "Street" public road and those designated for "Pro" drag races and equipped with a roll cage, brake chute and more).

However, these and those obviously have a magnificent list of improvements, only the length and number of digits in their preparation cost varies from group to group.

Starting with software improvements to the engine, switch to reinforced components, turbochargers with a higher displacement to upgraded gearboxes and power transmission systems in order to cope with the significantly higher power and bursts of power.

As far as capabilities are concerned, it was naturally the dual-wheel drive cars that achieved the best times due to their superior ability to put as much power to the ground at any given moment, followed by the rear-wheel drive cars and the front-wheel drive cars, also the most powerful in which they have to settle for the bottom of the scoreboard due to The limited ability of front-wheel drive to generate enough force to attach to the driving wheels when the vehicle accelerates forward.

But beyond all these, the biggest sensation of the event in Dimona was a guest making a debut and not yet a full-fledged participant - this is the Nissan GTR known as "the Cypriot", a nickname given to it by YouTuber Doron Kaufman, the owner of the MotorHeads channel, of the "Wasim Racing" workshop from Tira.

Just to give you an idea of how fast it was, on its first run it clocked 8.7 seconds for 400 meters - a faster result than any other car in the event.

Later the time was offset to 8.3 and 8.2 seconds with a speed of 292 km/h at the finish line. The previous record was set at last year's event, also then by a Nissan GTR with a time of 8.665 seconds and a speed of 279 km/h.

Rumors say that this is one of the 10 fastest GTRs in the world that are still legal for the road, no one is talking about the exact power, but by using all the parameters offered by its 9 computer maps, the maximum power will be about 2,000 hp, In the contraction that set the record, she used "only"

The theory of relativity: these front-wheel drive cars are acceleration machines, but among the competitors here they were the slower ones (photo: Ronen Toppelberg)

Of course, apart from the main event of the acceleration coefficients between the cars, the event was accompanied by a number of "side events" of vehicle displays of the workshops, drifting shows and ability displays by Oleg "Sharky" Vasilikov, one of the top racing drivers in Israel, in the Cadillac CT5 Blackwing cars that the importer UMI provided for this purpose.

The event was moderated by Doron Kaufman, who has been accompanying the drag racing and modified cars scene in Israel for years.

the results

Just before the results, in some cases the car in first place is not necessarily the one with the fastest time.

This is due to the scoring and measurement method of professional drag races in which, in addition to the time when the cars cover the fixed distance, the driver's reaction time between the start signal and the car leaving the scene is also measured and weighted for the final result.
