Screenwriter and satirist Manny Essig, brother of comedian Shalom Essig who is expected to light a torch on the upcoming Independence Day, posted a strange tweet in which he wondered if HOT8 was comparing the Nazi "brown shirt" militia to the right wing in Israel.
Essig uploaded a screenshot to Twitter where HOT8 is talking about the movie "Hitler and the Fire in the Reichstag" that was broadcast last night.
HOT8's explanation reads: "Meet the Brown Shirts - the militia made up of thugs and unemployed people who helped Hitler put an end to democracy."
Essig published the photo and wrote above it: "Is there some kind of implicit comparison to us or because I have a yes, I have trouble understanding Hot's hidden messages?"
In response, Essig received many responses, who did not understand what Essig wanted and why he even thought there was room for a comparison between the Israeli right and Hitler's militia, including responses from right-wing people.
"Of course there is no comparison. Why would you think such a thing?", one of the peepers asked him.
Essig answered her: "Lately I'm more suspicious and skeptical than ever."
In response to a tweeter who told him "Not today, you're above it", he replied: "I think today is the day my dear! On this day it is impossible for someone to make such a horrible comparison!".
Another right-wing tweeter wrote to Essig: "Brother, what comparison? Obviously, on the eve of Holocaust Day, Channel 8 will broadcast content like this. I understand your nerves with what they did to bismuth and that, but you don't have to imagine things."
Essig caught up with him: "I read what they tweeted, my dear, and understand their intent very well."
The tweeter replied: "Even if you're right, tweets like this make you paranoid and it plays into their hands, that's my opinion."
