The sample is consolidated as the maximum showcase of the sector. It is the market where more cars are produced and sold.

Times have changed, and just as before all the news in the industry was concentrated in the big European events, now the attention seems to shift to China:

the twentieth edition of the Shanghai International Motor Show

(known simply as Auto Shanghai) placed the Asian giant as the ideal setting for

the world's most important terminals to announce their short- and long-term plans.

To begin with, their numbers are overwhelming: from April 18 to 27,

more than 1,000 brands will occupy the 320,000 square meters of the enormous property

, where they are scheduled to hold 150 press conferences and

their presentation in society. of more than 100 new cars.

It is also a consequence of the size of the market: China is the country where the most cars are manufactured and sold.

Its production levels not only manage to satisfy local demand, but these days it already exceeds it and seeks to be a source of global supply.

In this sense, local brands are one of the welcome novelties of this year: far from derivative products or limited features, as used to happen in the past, Auto Shanghai 2023 proved that there are already companies –many of them still unknown in West – ready to

offer vehicles in the same range of design and build quality as the most challenging European competition

.

And in some aspects, such as technological equipment, up to a step above.

All of this generated an attractive framework for the most traditional and prestigious brands, and this is how, for example, the German BMW, Audi, Mercedes-Benz or Volkswagen saved several important announcements especially for this Hall, but sharing a marquee with their Chinese peers. like the giant Geely, BYD or start-ups like Nio.

Here are some of the prominent models that are attractions at the
