The official ranking: the worst bus lines in Israel - voila! vehicle

2023-04-28T12:44:08.727Z

The Ministry of Transportation ranked the lines that are the most delayed and the companies that passengers are the least satisfied with, but this does not prevent it from being the main culprit in the situation

Without wage increases for drivers and more polices with enforcement against private drivers who cut corners, we will only see more pictures like this (Photo: Flash 90, -)

Residents of the central region receive faltering bus services, with a higher rate than the rest of the country of delays and of buses that do not go on their route at all.

This is according to the public

transport authority's control report for the second half of 2022.

Those who take the brunt of the fire are the public transport companies whose main activity is in the center, the companies Dan, Qivm and Metropolin.

Their explanations are below, but the truth must be told: the main culprit in the situation is the Ministry of Transportation, which is well aware of the problems that cause this situation, and drags its feet in dealing with them.

The main difficulty is the lack of about 3,000 drivers in the public transport, because of which there are trips that simply do not take place.

The previous Minister of Transportation, Merav Michaeli, was able to reach an agreement with the Ministry of Finance on raising the wages of drivers from approximately NIS 42 to NIS 50 per hour, in order to bring back drivers who left the industry, and attract new ones.

But the conclusion was temporary until the end of this month, and although for the time being it seems that it is an insufficient salary increase that did not really change the situation, the Minister of Transportation Miri Regev did not get the Treasury to agree to another increase, only to maintain the current salary.

Even at Regev there are talks and promises to activate a security unit that will improve the personal safety of drivers in the face of violent passengers, but nothing is happening on the ground.

The lack of drivers stands out against the need to increase the frequency of buses in the center, and speed up the marking and paving of public transportation routes that will prevent the buses from getting stuck in traffic jams.

But since she returned to the Regev office, she has actually been fighting anti-traffickers: in enforcement against private car drivers who pay attention to them, in turning a central bus stop such as on Route 1 into one where a private car is allowed to travel with two people instead of three as in the original, which filled it up and slowed down bus traffic again .

Budgets that were intended to add trips, buses and drivers will be transferred to finance the reform of travel prices in public transportation, which will make travel cheaper for the majority of the public, but will not leave resources for the Ministry of Transportation to provide fast bus services with high frequency.

More passengers will compete for fewer buses.

The main thing is that they will pay only 2.5 shekels per trip to wait longer at the station and squeeze more in the bus.

In addition, if the Ministry of Transportation was able to meet the promised schedule for the completion of the mass transportation system in the center of the country, that is, the light rail, we would already have a working red line today and towards the activation of the green and purple lines.

And this failure is not only Regev's, in both terms, but also Michaeli's, Bezalel Smotritz's and Israel Katz's.

So more than anything, this report is an indictment against the Ministry of Transportation, issued by an authority that belongs to the ministry. The following reports will be worse, despite the effort of the professional level of the Ministry of Transportation and the bus companies to improve the level of service.

I wonder how long Regev will allow these reports to be published.

Among the companies, Lines, Metropolin and Dan receive the lowest scores among the companies that operate more than one line cluster, both from the Public Transport Authority inspectors and in the passenger satisfaction scores.

It should be noted that a large part of the supervision is currently based on electronic control of the times the buses arrive at the stations, and the times they leave the route and end.

Among the small companies that only operate in one region, which makes it easier for them to recruit drivers and the logistics behind the operation, the Eilot Regional Council, Galim, Extra and Nativ Express stood out at the top of travel and tourism in Nazareth.

Egged Tabora, Jerusalem Ramallah Union and Beit Shemesh Express received the lowest scores in the group.

And the worst lines, the ones with the highest percentages of failure, i.e. a bus that was more than 5 minutes late or didn't pass the station at all?

[Line 55 of the line company in the Kiryat Ono-Eled area (17% failure), line 68 of the same company in the same area (15.9%) and line 36, again lines in the Kiryat Ono Elad cluster.

Line 48 of Metropolina is fourth from the end (14%) and line 30 of the same company in the same area (13%) in the first five places.

Line 606 of Metropolina from Sharon to Holon in sixth place (12.2%), Line 1 of Dan in Tel Aviv (12.1%), Line 210 of Lines in Hasmonaim (12%), Line 47 of Metropolina in Sharon (11.9%), Line 650 of Metropolina in Sharon- Holon (11.8%) and line 240 of lines in Hasmonaim (11.7%) close the list of the ten lines you don't want to depend on to get to work or school.

The Dan company stated: "Dan provides transportation services to hundreds of thousands of passengers a day throughout Gush Dan - the busiest and most challenging metropolis in Israel. The comparison between Dan's activity in the overcrowded and busy metropolis in Israel and the activities of public transport in areas where the loads are much smaller - is in line with reality.

The Dan Group has proven that precisely in the places where it operates public relations under equal conditions, such as in Matronit in the north or Beer Sheva in the south, it is ranked first in the indexes."

The lines company stated: "The challenges of operating public transportation in the center of the country cannot be compared in any way to the rest of the country, as the control report of the Ministry of Transportation clearly indicates.

"Among the main reasons is the lack of drivers in Israel, 80% of which are in Gush Dan. Another essential factor is the heavy traffic congestion in the central area and with an emphasis on the huge scope of extensive infrastructure works on the routes through which the lines in question pass. It can be noted that a trip before the start of the infrastructure works lasted less than an hour Today over an hour and a half. It should be emphasized that beyond the dissatisfaction of the drivers and passengers, greater driver resources are required in order to carry out the same volume of trips, a critical element in view of the lack of drivers that already exists.

"Furthermore, according to the measurement method of the Ministry of Transportation, despite the known delays due to the infrastructure works, a trip that actually left after the time of the next trip is considered, even though it actually took place, to have not been carried out. For example, a trip on a frequent line every 5 minutes that leaves 6 minutes is considered according to the measurement method as not performed. This measurement method distorts the data on the one hand and ignores the impossible reality that the ministry is involved in with a tremendous amount of infrastructure work being carried out at the same time, the lack of drivers and the acceptance barriers for recruiting and training new drivers for the industry, the canvas will be too short to detail."

The Metropolitan refused to comment.
