The family car market, which for years has been dominated by the Toyota Corolla, Hyundai Elantra and Skoda Octavia, is joined today by a new competitor - the Citroen C4X, which comes to the competition with a very different approach to the traditional family car concept.
Citroen's solution to presence in this field comes in the form of a sedan-liftback version of the compact C4.
This one underwent surgery to implant a separate trunk with a separate trunk door that allows it to have the silhouette of a sedan, a large trunk, and as a bonus a commanding driving position like a crossover.
With an overall length of 4.6 meters, a width of 1.8 meters and a height of 1.5 meters and a wheelbase of 2.67 meters, it is slightly below its direct competitors in the category.
But the trunk with a volume of 510 liters places it in a relatively high position when it is only the Octavia that surpasses it with a volume of 553 liters, compared to 474 liters in the Elantra and 471 liters in the Corolla.

The C4X comes in one fairly high finish level called SHINE and in the list of accessories you can find a digital and colorful dashboard and above it also an overhead display on a screen, control of the gears from the steering wheel in diesel and gasoline, parking sensors, LED lights, a 10-inch multimedia screen with Android and iPhone compatibility, A storage drawer above the glove compartment and a dedicated device for a tablet, air conditioning ports and USB sockets in the back and more.
It also equips the car with Citroen's progressive hydraulic suspension system and its comfort seats.
All versions will offer a TOMTOM navigation system in Hebrew with the option to edit and send travel routes directly to the car using the app.
Also, the manufacturer's new multimedia system with an over-the-air (OTA) update option appears here for the first time.
In the electric version, the car also gets the option to schedule the cooling and heating of the vehicle while charging to save on the use of electricity from the battery later.
The advanced safety systems include automatic braking, adaptive cruise control, lane departure correction, speed sign recognition with synchronization to the cruise control and stop sign recognition, no entry, no overtaking and "dead zone" vehicle warning.

The model is powered by three drive systems, all from the shelf of the drive systems known to us at the Stellentis Group.
In the gasoline version, it is the 1.2-liter turbo three-cylinder engine that comes with 130 hp. The diesel has a 1.5-liter engine with the same power, both with an automatic gearbox with 8 gears. The electric version has a single front-wheel drive engine and 136 hp.
The performance is 10.9 seconds per 100 km/h in gasoline and with a maximum speed of 200 km/h, 11.7 seconds and a maximum of 206 km/h in diesel and electric with 10.8 seconds and a maximum of 150 km/h. The electric version, which the importer estimates will make up about 40% of the model's
sales (besides 40% of the gasoline version and the rest diesel) There is a 50 kWh battery, which should provide a declared range of 358 km. A rather modest figure and similar to that offered by the Chinese crossovers such as BYD's Hato 3 and the Geely Geometric C, and especially compared to the Tesla Model 3 , only a few thousand shekels cheaper than it, but comes with an official range of 491 km.
The car supports fast charging with a power of up to 100 kW in DC positions that will bring the car to 80% in 30 minutes.

In terms of prices, the C4X in the gasoline version starts at NIS 164,000, more expensive than the base versions of the Elantra (at NIS 158 and 160,000), than the entry-level versions of the Toyota Corolla at NIS 158,000 and 160,000 and is similar to the Octavia with an engine The 1.0 liters (for NIS 156 and 164 thousand).
It is indeed equipped with them, but the starting point against old and established competitors will not make life easy for it.
The diesel version is priced at NIS 175,000 and will focus on fleets and the taxi market.
And the electric version, which will be the most expensive, raises the bar even more with NIS 185,000 - a significantly higher price than that of the similar Chinese electric cars in the range and too close to be attractive to cars like the Tesla Model 3, which currently costs NIS 192,600.
The Citroën is supposed to be more comfortable and offer a higher sitting position, it is doubtful whether this will be enough for it compared to the advantage of the range, performance and equipment of the American electric car.
The importer also announced that C4X customers will receive three years of free maintenance, a future trade-in at list price and a 5-year warranty or 120,000 km. For the electric version, an 8-year warranty and 160,000 km on the batteries.
