The Italian car market flies in April.

According to data from the Ministry of Transport, there were 125,805 registrations, 29.2% more than in the same month of 2021. Overall, in the first four months, 552,850 were sold, equal to 26.89% more than in the same period of last year.

The Stellantis group registered 42,791 cars in Italy in April, 23.4% more than in the same month in 2022. The share is 34.1% compared to 35.6%.

In the first four months of the year, Stellantis sold 186,918 cars, up by 17.7% with the share falling from 36.4% to 33.9%.

The positive streak continues for the Italian car market.

The ninth consecutive growth was recorded in April.

The final balance for the first four months also closed positively with an increase of 26.89% over the same period of 2022, a year which however was particularly negative for the car market.

The Centro Studi Promotor underlines this.

The recovery has been underway since August 2022 in Italy and, as in the European Union - explains the Csp - it is precisely due to the disappearance of most of the difficulties associated with the shortage of components and therefore of cars to be delivered to customers.

However, all the other factors holding back demand mentioned persist and so the Italian car market is still far from the levels prior to the crisis triggered by the coronavirus epidemic, i.e. from the levels of 2019.

In fact, registrations in the first four months show a drop of as much as 22.5% over the same period of 2019. However, the seriousness of the situation on the Italian market appears in all its drama if we consider that, projecting the data for the first quarter over the entire 2023 taking into account the seasonality, a volume of registrations of 1,417,564 units is obtained, which, if the current trend continues, is destined to grow in the coming months but it can be excluded that 2023 will close on levels comparable to those of 2019 , when the registrations were 1,916,951.

"The situation of the Italian market - underlines Gian Primo Quagliano, president of the Centro Studi Promotor - is in any case aligned with that of the European Union market, with one important difference.

In the Union, the share of electric cars is growing, which in the main countries has already been in double digits for some time, while in Italy we are still a long way off.

The Government has declared that it wants to review the incentive system which is giving very modest results precisely for electric cars and the surrounding area, but to date the words have not yet been followed by the facts".
