Every time we thought that the local streetcar market was reaching saturation, we find that one thing is bigger than the Chinese electric penetration - the appetite of these manufacturers to drive a stake in more and more groups and categories.
But the change we see from generation to generation of products is that they are no longer looking to be the cheapest alternative, but the pioneers with added value.
The two new MG models launched this morning in Israel sit exactly on this slot.
Its entry today with two new models is an example of how the Chinese manufacturers are breaking up the usual car categories and trying to get a foot in the door, or rather a model in the door of each category.

The main car launched today is the MG4, a compact built on a dedicated electric platform from MG's parent company SAIC that will also be used in future models.
With dimensions of 4.3 meters in length, 1.83 cm in width and 1.5 meters in height, it more or less coincides with the external dimensions of the Volkswagen Golf or its direct competitor, the Ora Funky Cat. However, in the case of the MG4 there is another interesting figure, a wheelbase of 270 s "m more than the two aforementioned cars and similar to that of family cars such as the Skoda Octavia. The trunk is modest, 363 or 350 liters depending on the trim level.
The MG4 comes in two power levels, 170 or 204 hp, both with 25.4 kg and drive rear. This drive, along with a 50:50 weight distribution, directs it according to the manufacturer to those looking for a car driving experience. Surprisingly, the performance is 7.9 seconds to 100 km/h in the powerful version, and 7.7 seconds in the one with 170 horses, a matter of weight due to the batteries the bigger ones.
The maximum speed in both is 160 km/h.
As mentioned, the car also comes in two battery versions, the basic and the weak one with a 51 kWh battery and a range of 350 km.
In this version, the car will support fast charging of up to 117 kW.
The more powerful with a 64 kWh battery and a range of 450 km in the Comfort trim level or 435 in the Kshetri trim level.
In this version the fast charging will be able to receive up to 135 kW.

The car has three trim levels: Standard, Comfort and Laksheri (the last two only with the 64 kWh battery). Prices for the MG4 start at NIS 144,888 for the standard version with the 51 kWh battery. For the Comfort with the 64 kWh battery, you will pay NIS 153,888 and the top-of-the-line Lexus version costs NIS 155,888.
These prices coincide with the prices of the Aura Funky Cat and the Geely Geometric 3, its main competitors in terms of range, size and of course prices.
MG5: Going to work
The second model that MG launched is the MG5, here it is a family station wagon (based on a gasoline powered model), something that is becoming less and less in the market and is in a unique position due to its electric drive.
It is 4.6 meters long, 1.81 meters wide, 1.54 high and has a wheelbase of 266 cm. The trunk contains 479 liters in the normal state and up to 1,367 liters when the seats are folded. The towing capacity is 500 kg.
On the drive is a single electric motor connected to the front wheels.
The power is 156 hp and 28.5 kgm.
Performance: 7.7 seconds to 100 and 185 km/h maximum. The power is provided by a 61.1 kWh battery that will bring it to a range of 380 km. The car supports charging at a rate of up to 87 kW. It will be able to go from 0 to 80% in approx. -40 minutes in the appropriate position.

The car comes in one trim level, which includes a 10.25-inch screen, a 12.3-inch digital dashboard, LED lighting, a 360-degree view from the cameras, climate control, air conditioning outlets for the rear seats, Android and Apple compatibility, an electric seat for the driver, heated front seats, seats with imitation leather upholstery , 17 inch rims and more.
The safety systems include adaptive cruise control, speed sign recognition and synchronization with cruise control, automatic braking, lane departure correction and more.
The service interval for the MG5 will be 24,000 km or a year, and like the MG4, it also has a warranty of 5 years or 120,000 km for the vehicle and 8 years or 150,000 km for the battery. The price of the MG5 will
be NIS 163,888 - a little above the prices of gasoline or hybrid family cars such as Toyota Corolla, Skoda Octavia or Hyundai Elantra.
