BYD Auto 3 ends the first four months of 2023 as the clear sales queen of the local car market. With another tram in third place, the revolution is already here

Gas and brakes: The Israeli car market shows the strongest four months of deliveries in its history, ending the first quarter of 2023 with 125,301 new cars that hit the roads, a 13% increase compared to the same period last year.

However, in December there was a 5% decrease to 19,430 deliveries, which could indicate that the increase in car prices this year, the increase in interest rates that make the financing loans for their purchase more expensive, the signs of recession in the economy and the atmosphere created by the legal revolution are beginning to affect sales.

Records were also recorded in the amount of electric cars delivered in the first quarter, 19,982 cars, close to the number of electric cars delivered all of last year.

In fact, 35% of the new cars delivered in the first year were electrified, of which 15.9% were fully electric, 5.6% plug-in and 13.6% hybrids, whose market share is decreasing, but this year was also affected by the lack of Toyota's hybrid models.

The electric BYD Eto 3 maintains its position as the best-selling car in Israel, with 6,900 deliveries, ahead of the old Mazda 2 (4,200) and the electric Geely Geometry C as well (3,600).

The Kia Niro, which sold mainly plug-in versions, ranked fourth (3,530) ahead of the Hyundai Elantra hybrid (3,500).

And so, apart from the 2, all the other five cars sold in Israel are electrified.

The rest of the popular gasoline models were relegated to the second five: Chery Tigo 8, the best-selling 7-seater (3,300), Kia Picanto (3,200) which was the best-selling car in 2022, and probably the last gasoline car to hold that title, Hyundai Tucson, Hyundai i10 and Kia Celtus.

Very close to entering the top ten are two very different recreational vehicles: the Kia Seltos (2,930) with a 2-liter gasoline engine, and the Toyota Yaris Cross, which is sold mainly as a hybrid (2,900).

Among the manufacturers, Hyundai continues to lead the market (21,326, down 1.8%), ahead of sister company Kia (14,885, down 4.7%), Toyota (10,673, a 37.7% collapse amid a lack of Corolla and long queues for delivery of other models), Mazda (8,190 , up 16%) and China's BYD (7,229 deliveries, was not here a year ago).

Also in sixth place is a new Chinese manufacturer in Israel, Chery (5,910), ahead of Skoda (5,850 and an increase of 9.9%), Mitsubishi (4,561, a decrease of 15%), Peugeot (4,109, a jump of 24%) and Suzuki (4,100 , a jump of 28%).

The luxury market continues to be led for the second year in a row by Mercedes (2,240 private cars, an increase of 1.5%), with Audi narrowing the gaps (1,646, an increase of 12%) and BMW diving (1,196, a decrease of 32.1%).

Cooper already with 942 units (38%+), ahead of Volvo (897, 31%+), Lexus (685, 20.9%-), Genesis (420, 39%+) and Cadillac (258, 10.5%+).

Porsche (133, 20%+), Maserati (26, 19%-), Ferrari (13, 70%+), Bentley (7, 36%-), and Aston Martin (2, 70%) close the list in the luxury market.

Among the Chinese electric luxury brands, Wey stands out (with 229 units), before Link & Co (147), Hongchi (74) and Polestar (68).
