At the end of a pathological examination, it emerged that the poet and songwriter Yonatan Gefen passed away after suffering a heart attack related to the atherosclerosis he suffered from.

This was announced this morning (Thursday) by his son, the singer Aviv Gefen.

This is the first official announcement from the family about the cause of Geffen's death, who died a few weeks ago - after a wave of rumors arose on the subject.

Last week, Nurit Gefen, his ex-wife, referred to them in the podcast "Baut Zaim" which she presents together with her good friend Dalia Gutman.

"We don't know when he died, they took the body to Abu Kabir because he fell and got hit. I was worried that he lay there for hours and suffered, but the doctor Dr. Shlomo Segev told me that he either had a cardiac arrest and then he died straight away and if he also had a stroke , then they already lose consciousness a little and he did not suffer.

I think he didn't suffer when he was on the floor."

Gutman told Geffen that there was a rumor in Israel that Jonathan Geffen had committed suicide.

"Yonathan did not commit suicide," Norit interrupted.

"It makes me laugh. I told you two weeks ago that he said 'I am happy,' he had never said that word before. And not only did he not commit suicide, he was waiting for his book to come out. He wanted to have the book published. Within a month, a new book is coming out which is His baby. He saw David Polonsky's illustrations in the book so much, Shira (Gefen - VT) made a final proofreading.

He waited, he didn't want to die, he wanted the book."

Gefen, a journalist, poet and author who enjoyed great success over decades, passed away at the age of 76. Gefen, born in Nahalel and a member of the Dayan family, was a regular columnist in Maariv newspaper for about 40 years, and published many books for adults and children and songs that became an integral part of the Israeli soundtrack.

Among his well-known books are "Dear Woman" which he wrote about his relationship with his mother, "Good Material" about his connections with the "Lol" group, and especially "The Sixteenth Lamb", which is considered one of the most beloved children's books in Israel, which was also produced for a very successful record featuring Yoni Rechter, Yehudit Ravitz, David Broza and Gidi Gov.

Among his well-known songs are hymns such as "A place for worry", "The Little Prince", "The most beautiful girl in the garden", "It will be good", "There is no country for love", "Song for singing", "You remember the songs", "Less but Hurts", "Takes Time", "Ballad for the Naive", "How a Song Was Born", "Maybe It's Over", "I Love Chocolate", "Closed Garden", "Ahinoam Doesn't Know", "Yonathan Go Home" , "Ben Arabim's Song", "This is how you wanted me", "When you cry you are not beautiful", "Being alone", "My love is not his love" and many more.

He even translated quite a few successful poems, including "Idiot" by Vladimir Vysotsky, the poems of "The Woman with Me" and more.
