In the UK, police stopped a Hyundai driver without a driver's license – the man had been on the road without a "rag" for more than half a century.
Getting a driver's license usually costs a lot of money – in other countries, however, you sometimes have to dig much deeper into your pocket for the "rag" than in Germany. The costs depend, among other things, on the number of driving lessons required and how often you fail the exam – recently, more and more novice drivers had to compete again. In Great Britain, a driver has now completely renounced his driver's license. After half a century without a "rag", he has now been caught.

As the Derbyshire County Traffic Police reported on Twitter, officers stopped a 69-year-old in a Hyundai ix20 who had never taken a driving test in his life. Obviously, the man pretended to the insurance company that he had a driver's license. His mistake was a "boast", reports the police, through which the whole thing apparently came to light. Now this is over: The police confiscated his car and the driver reported for several offenses.

The police's Twitter report has been widely commented on. Opinions are divided on the man's offense:

If you're wondering how it can be possible to remain undetected for so long: With his half century without a driver's license, the 69-year-old is not yet the "front runner". In 2022, police in England caught a Mini driver who had also been driving without a "rag" for decades - he even had a proud 72 years without a driver's license. In the future, seniors without a driver's license could possibly be found out more quickly – the EU wants to introduce a driving ability test from the age of 70.
