The investigation into the discovery of a dead infant found in a canister is progressing. The mother of the child discovered in a field, in Huclier (Pas-de-Calais), and her companion were incarcerated, announced Wednesday the prosecutor's office of Bethune. They are among the five people indicted in this case.
At the end of their police custody, the mother and her companion were indicted on charges of "murder and concealment of a corpse" and then placed in pretrial detention, said the prosecutor's office. On April 3, "a can containing the lifeless body of a newborn male" was found in a field, he recalled.
Five people indicted
Investigations identified the child's mother, who was taken into custody on 3 May, as well as her partner and three other family members. According to the prosecutor's office, the other three defendants were indicted on charges of "concealment of a corpse" and "failure to denounce a crime". One was remanded in custody and the other two were placed under judicial supervision.
The autopsy revealed that the child was "born viable and had a head trauma suggestive of multiple impacts."
