According to the Créteil prosecutor's office, the man, aged 41, has been in custody since Wednesday as part of an investigation opened after a complaint from a detainee. This guard is stationed in the semi-liberty unit (QSL) of Villejuif, which depends on the Fresnes penitentiary center.
Ten months suspended prison sentence in 2018
In 2018, the Paris Court of Appeal sentenced him to a ten-month suspended prison sentence and a four-month public employment ban for violence against a Fresnes inmate in 2015.
According to the court ruling, the guard had shown a "lack of self-control" by slapping and grabbing an inmate in his cell by the throat. An administrative investigation was then opened and the supervisor went before the disciplinary board.
