An 82-year-old man opened fire Sunday in a street of a small town located about twenty kilometers from Thionville (Moselle).
According to Le Républicain Lorrain, the man, described by his family as prone to suicidal thoughts, left his home in the middle of the afternoon with a weapon. He then allegedly fired two shots.
Dispatched to the scene, the gendarmerie quickly intervened. Faced with the madman, the gendarmes were forced to take out their weapons. The octogenarian died in an exchange of fire.
Shooting at the Luxembourg border
These facts come the day after a dramatic shooting that occurred about fifteen kilometers away, on the Luxembourg border.
Five people were wounded by bullets, three of them seriously on Saturday in Villerupt. In the early evening, a hooded man, since identified by the authorities, opened fire in this commune of Meurthe-et-Moselle before fleeing by car.

"It was conveyed by an accomplice," said at a press conference, the secretary general of the prefecture, Julien le Goff. At the scene, 15 to 20 bullet cases were found. "There are five victims, four men and one woman. Three people are seriously affected, with two vital prognoses engaged. Among the injured, there is a minor, and the oldest is a thirty-year-old, "said the prosecutor of the Republic of Val-de-Briey, Catherine Galen. According to France Bleu, a 17-year-old man was shot in the head, and two men, one 20 years old and the other 30 years old, were hit in the chest.
