In France, chronic pain, such as neuropathic, musculoskeletal pain or fibromyalgia, affects 1 in 5 people. These are particularly difficult pains to manage. Opioid medications are not recommended, not only because of the risk of addiction, but also because they are not effective.
Doctors had found an alternative with antidepressants. In addition to their effects on anxiety, very common in case of chronic pain, these drugs would indeed have a specific analgesic action. Antidepressants are therefore increasingly prescribed in the context of chronic pain.
