A tragedy occurred Sunday during a triathlon. A participant died during the swimming event of the Ironman of Aix-en-Provence (Bouches-du-Rhône), said the site in charge of monitoring all races of this type in France.
It is more precisely an Ironman 70.3. This race, which takes place near the Mediterranean, is actually a half-Ironman, but remains a triathlon of particularly high demand. It consists of a first part of swimming for 1.9 km. This is followed by 90 km of cycling and a half-marathon, or 21.1 km of running. This was the 12th edition of this race.
It was at the beginning of the competition that the victim died. The swimming event took place at Lac de Peyrolles, northeast of Aix. Provence specifies that it is an amateur participant. The man could not be brought back to life by the emergency services.
