Armed with two handguns, the group of robbers had stolen in February jewelry worth a total of 41 million euros.

They stole jewelry worth several million euros, which remain untraceable. Four men suspected of having participated in February in the armed robbery of a jewelry store in Gstaad, an upscale ski resort in the Swiss Alps, have been indicted and imprisoned, announced Friday the prosecutor's office of Marseille.

On February 9, individuals "seized, at the point of two handguns, jewelry (rings, necklaces, etc.). for an amount estimated at 40 million Swiss francs", or more than 41 million euros, explains the prosecutor's office in a statement.

They then left the scene in a stolen vehicle in Annemasse (Haute-Savoie), near the border. "The results of the first investigations conducted by the Jirs (specialized interregional jurisdiction, editor's note) of Lyon led the Jirs of Marseille to seize the facts," adds the prosecutor.

Profiles linked to Nice banditry

A team of criminals from Nice was suspected, said a source close to the investigation. The investigations have led to the arrest, in recent days, of 11 people in the Alpes-Maritimes, including Nice, Vallauris and Mandelieu with the help of intervention units, the Raid and the BRI.

During the searches, about 4,500 euros, a GPS tracker, a jammer or walkie-talkies were seized but no trace of the jewels. "The loot has not been found, they are not gigantic pieces but very expensive," said the source close to the investigation.

In the end, four men aged between 27 and 32 were charged and placed in pre-trial detention. Two are prosecuted for "robbery with a weapon in an organized gang, participation in a criminal association for crimes in an organized gang and robbery in an organized gang", and the other two are indicted only for participation in a criminal association, details the prosecutor.

They are all known for acts of banditry, according to the source close to the investigation. Members of their entourage, arrested with them, emerged free and without prosecution. "Often the acts of banditry committed in Switzerland emanate from teams in France, but usually rather in the Lyon region," commented the source close to the investigation.
