Some 600 demonstrators, according to the prefecture, marched Saturday in Rennes against "Macron, Darmanin and fascism" and four people were arrested during a demonstration punctuated by tear gas shots from the police.

The police fired tear gas just minutes after the procession left the Place de Bretagne, according to an AFP journalist. Highly mobile demonstrators then moved towards the Place de la République, threatening to attack a bank branch and a department store.

Evening mobilization

A hundred demonstrators, mostly young, dressed in black and white, masked and carrying unfurled black umbrellas had taken the lead of the procession behind a banner on which was written "Against work". The prefecture had banned the demonstration and deployed several dozen security forces to prevent the demonstration from spilling over into the city center.

Around 21 p.m., the mobilization continued in the center of the Breton metropolis, including rue Saint-Michel. An "anti-fascist offensive" could be read on the banner, according to France-Bleu Armorique.

The West-France journalist who covered the parade was invectivated and ordered "to clear" while demonstrators also attacked a photographer from whom "they tried to snatch the cameras," according to the same source.
