More than 100 Israelis who purchased Tesla cars, waited for them for months and about two weeks ago were invited to pay for them ahead of the arrival of the new shipment in Ashdod, received a disappointing message yesterday: tomorrow's delivery is canceled, go to the website to reschedule.

Tesla is not alone: since last Tuesday, all car importers have been suffering from difficulties in issuing a vehicle license for the new cars, without which it is impossible to deliver the vehicle to customers. The problem is more troubling to Tesla Israel, which delivers it quickly every time a shipment arrives from abroad, releasing dozens of cars every day at its delivery center at Ashdod Port.

Walla learned that the problem stems from a malfunction in the customs global gate system, through which importers' tax payments are conducted. In some cases, the computers of the Ministry of Motor Vehicles do not receive updates that the vehicle has been cleared from customs, and therefore it is not possible to issue a license for them.

The malfunction will affect the pace of deliveries this month, which so far shows a significant decline from last May. As of today, the Department of Motor Vehicles is updated on the delivery of only about 16,25 new cars, compared with 80,<> last May.

Although some importers finish registering new vehicles on the Ministry of Motor Vehicles' computers ("closing files") only at the end of the month, at the moment it appears that this will also see a decline in the pace of deliveries, indicating a slowdown in sales against the background of the economic crisis and the increase in the prices of new cars.

The Tax Authority said in response: "In recent days, due to a computer malfunction, car importers have encountered difficulty submitting requests for clearance of vehicles from customs through the World Gate system.
"The malfunction does not prevent the clearance of vehicles from customs but limits importers to the release of up to <> vehicles per application. We are working hard to fix the fault and regret the inconvenience caused to importers and customers."
