Whether it's an electric car or a combustion engine: For some, a car is simply a means to an end: a vehicle that can get you from A to B as cheaply as possible. But there is also another species of human being for whom the car is an expression of personality. Accordingly, the car is usually also maintained - from the loving paint treatment to the cleaning of the car seats. And when choosing the desired license plate, it should definitely be the initials and perhaps also the year of birth. In most cases, there are different preferences for the preferred vehicle types, depending on gender. In a survey, an online portal wanted to know which model people would most like to be picked up on their first date. Result: An electric car is definitely the wrong choice at the first meeting.

Survey: What type of vehicle would you like to be picked up on the first date?

It is not known how many people actually pick up their date by car at the first meeting these days. Therefore, the question that the online leasing portal Leasingmarkt.de asked 1,021 motorists is probably more theoretical. But the result is still interesting. In fact, 35 percent of women said they didn't care at all about the type of vehicle. And 22 percent would not even be picked up from home on a date. But anyone who thinks that the women who are interested in the type of vehicle would particularly like to be taken along in a sports car is wrong. Eleven percent of the female survey participants would prefer to be picked up in an SUV. This is followed by sports cars (eight percent) and sedans (six percent). Hardly any points can be scored with femininity, apparently, with a Stromer. The answer option "It doesn't matter, the main thing is an e-car" was chosen by only one percent of respondents.

According to a survey, many people don't even want to be picked up at home on their first date – if they do, SUVs and sports cars are the first choice. (Symbolic image) © Cavan Images/Imago

Pick-up at the first appointment: Men would like to be taken along in a sports car

For men, the result was somewhat different. However, even here 30 percent would not care what kind of vehicle it would be when it was picked up. 13 percent would be happy if a sports car drove up, twelve percent about the appearance of an SUV. A pick-up in a convertible would be desirable for ten percent, in a sedan for seven percent and in a station wagon still for five percent. Here, too, electric cars (three percent) landed far behind in favor, but still ahead of vans (one percent) and pick-ups (one percent).

The theory that electric cars would generate more enthusiasm among younger people does not apply in this case. Quite the opposite: according to Leasingmarkt.de, only one percent of respondents in this age group would prefer to be picked up in an electric car – a total of three percent. In the age group of drivers over 50 years, four percent would be happy about an electric car pick-up.
