A few musical notes resonate through the loudspeakers installed on the forecourt of the Saint-Rémi basilica. This is the intro of "Petite Marie", the famous song by Francis Cabrel. The coffin of nurse Carène Mezino, stabbed Monday, May 22 at the University Hospital of Reims, enters the vast religious building. Inside, more than 1,200 people – family, friends, caregivers and colleagues – took their seats. Early Thursday morning, a long line of caregivers had already formed to fill the condolence books installed on desks in front of the basilica. The night before, the whole neighborhood had been cordoned off and secured by barriers. All had responded, in official dress, at the request of the family.
