In traffic, emotions quickly run high. The ADAC now wanted to know in a survey, what stresses drivers the most.

Sneakers, pushers, "non-indicators": There are numerous reasons why drivers can get upset on the road every day. Especially on long journeys - such as on vacation - nerves are quickly on edge. There is shouting, wild gesticulation and sometimes cursing. Although it's certainly not healthy to get really upset – sometimes you just do it anyway. But what actually drives drivers up the wall? That's what the ADAC wanted to find out in a survey.

Behaviors that annoy drivers: At the top of the list is the jostler

At least it feels like the patience of drivers is getting thinner and thinner with rising temperatures. In any case, the automobile club wanted to know which behavior particularly stresses motorists – and surveyed 1,000 members. Drivers are really annoyed by pushers: 72 percent stated that they find close collisions at high speeds stressful. The safety distance is extremely important – it always depends on the speed being driven.

Aggressive handling: Many drivers feel disturbed by this

In second place was "aggressive driving behavior of drivers": 68 percent of those surveyed said that they felt disturbed by it. Anyone who has already noticed that they tend to be prone to "heated" driving maneuvers should be careful: Because if you overdo it - and, for example, not only drive up closely, but also operate the headlight flasher at the same time, such behavior can sometimes be interpreted as coercion. And this can be punished with very high fines – or even a prison sentence.

Stress factors for motorists: cyclists are also included

However, drivers can not only get really upset about other drivers – but also about cyclists. 63 percent of the survey participants said they were annoyed by cyclists who did not obey the traffic rules. It should be noted at this point that motorists are not always careful either: Among other things, so-called dooring accidents are dangerous for cyclists, which can be easily avoided with the so-called "Dutch grip".

Distracted road users and "non-turn signals" – many drivers are also annoyed by this

In most cases, behavior that is perceived as disturbing in road traffic is also dangerous. This is also the case with another point of criticism that 61 percent complained about in the survey: they are annoyed by distracted road users. In the meantime, the smartphone is undisputedly the main reason why many people do not concentrate sufficiently on the road.

Also among the top 5 stress factors for motorists: the "non-turn signal". This species is characterized by not flashing when turning or changing lanes – or only at the very last second, when it is actually already too late. The Highway Code specifies exactly when the "direction indicator", as the turn signal is called in official German, must be set: namely "in good time".
