The man attacked his neighbours and then turned his gun on himself. A 58-year-old man attacked residents of his apartment building in La Souterraine, Creuse on Monday afternoon, killing one person and wounding three. The perpetrator tried to end his life: his prognosis is life-threatening.
It is a neighborhood conflict that would have triggered the drama. The attacker, armed with a crossbow and knives, would have begun to attack families in several apartments of his four-storey building, explains the prosecutor of the Republic, Alexandra Pethieu, to France Blue.
According to France 3, the man broke into a first apartment and fired a crossbow at the dog. He then allegedly wounded a man in the arm with a crossbow tile. It was this victim who allegedly raised the alarm by fleeing through the first-floor window. Another man was reportedly seriously wounded in the stomach with a knife and another wounded in the shoulder.
He called the gendarmes to announce that he was going to kill himself.
As for the alleged attacker, he fled "he called the military indicating that he had killed someone and that he was going to kill himself near a pond in the commune," says the public prosecutor.
"Neighborhood conflicts are things we see every day, but they degenerate to this point it's still quite unprecedented. It's chilling as a situation, says Etienne Lejeune, mayor of La Souterraine to France Bleu. We were not aware, at least we, of a situation that would suggest that it could degenerate like this between these neighbors. " An investigation for murder and attempted murder has been opened.
