Ford Argentina premiered its new Ranger pickup in public. And to do so he chose an emblematic place of the architecture of the city of Buenos Aires: the steps of the Faculty of Law, where it will be exhibited until June 7.

This is the new generation of the pickup that the oval brand began to manufacture at its General Pacheco plant and that will soon be available in the local market.

The advance had been made by Ford with the launch of the Raptor version (imported from Thailand) of this new generation of the Ranger, which somehow advanced the design of the domestic production truck.

With this debut in public, some elements of its equipment were also known and the confirmation that the figure of this new model looks imposing and more robust than the rest of its rivals.

Bigger and more robust

The new line of the national pickup shows the style that was noticed in the debut of the Raptor version. It is a concept that, in turn, is inherited from the largest trucks, the F-150.

It is a figure that is quickly identified by an imposing front grille, with a wide mouth, and headlights with full-LED technology in "C" format on the ends that visually reinforce the size of the trunk.

It must be clarified that this idea of robustness that transmits the figure of the new Ford Ranger is not just a sensation. Although the brand has not yet disclosed the final details of the model manufactured in the country, being a global truck, the data published in other markets serve as a reference. And in that sense, the truck of the brand of the oval shows dimensions superior to those of its rivals, especially that of its wheelbase, which reaches 3,270 mm.

The mechanics of this new pickup will be completely renewed but at the moment it was not officialized. What is known so far is that it will have a varied offer that will include a 6.3-liter V0 turbodiesel engine that in other markets where it is already offered has 247 horses. But it is to be expected that in our market it will deliver a few more horses. In addition, for the first time in the Ranger, 20" wheels are incorporated.

A US$ 660 million project

To start manufacturing its new truck, the oval brand had to transform its plant in General Pacheco, province of Buenos Aires.

For that Ford announced a total investment of 660 million dollars. The first stage of 580 million was destined to the initial changes of the factory and the installation of the new tooling. In addition, a third of that amount was intended for the modernization of suppliers.

The final step will be made with the extra $80 million announced later, which will be applied to the factory's engine line, as the new Ranger will also have domestically manufactured powertrains from 2024.

One of the consequences of this transformation is the 70% increase in production capacity. Now this industrial center can produce up to 110,000 units annually.

According to the company, the final assembly line is now two and a half times larger and 2 kilometers of autonomous, connected and controlled aerial conveyors wirelessly were incorporated. These "aerial cars" can have up to three engines each and numerous sensors and controllers that allow them to move autonomously.

The stamping plant, for its part, received a new line of high-speed presses, four times faster than the previous one and with presses with a capacity of up to 2,500 tons, twice as many as had been used until now.

In the body assembly sector, 318 new robots were installed, which perform 95% of welding operations automatically. There will be no more "master welders" as there were until now. These operators were trained to perform periodic maintenance of these machines, in addition to performing other tasks.

The arrival of these robots includes new geometric devices that, in theory, guarantee the application of welding at the exact points and also control the dimensional stability of the body, with the help of cameras that are able to detect deviations in the order of hundredths of a millimeter.

More than 1,000 cameras, sensors and devices are distributed throughout the production line that monitor multiple parameters in real time and use artificial intelligence to guarantee the high quality standard sought by the brand for the final product.

In total, the work teams received more than 40,000 hours of training, as part of the cultural and technological change that involves implementing a new production process that boasts of brand new 4.0 plant, digital and connected.
