A 48-year-old woman is suspected of having hit her mother, 91, with a shovel on May 31 in Viâpres-le-Petit (Aube), resulting in the death of the latter, according to our colleagues from France 3 Champagne-Ardenne.
The tragedy would probably have occurred in the late afternoon following a dispute. The 48-year-old girl, a neighbour of the nonagenarian, allegedly hit her several times with a shovel. "The girl, alcoholic, indicated that she was annoyed because her mother reproached her so she hit her mother with a shovel, all over the body, including on the head," said the prosecutor of the Republic of Troyes, Julie Bernier, East Lightning.
The nonagenarian succumbs to her injuries
The girl then allegedly called the mayor of the commune who contacted the firefighters and gendarmes. Seriously injured, suffering from head trauma, chest trauma and multiple fractures, the mother was taken care of by the emergency services. The forty-year-old was immediately placed in police custody, then indicted two days later for attempted murder by ascendant and placed under judicial control.

The nonagenarian finally succumbed to her injuries the next day, June 2, at the University Hospital of Reims where she was hospitalized. "Initially his vital prognosis was not engaged but his condition deteriorated rapidly," explained the prosecutor to our colleagues. An autopsy is scheduled as part of the investigation to determine if the death is beautiful is indeed caused by the shovel blows.
