Anyone who parks under lime trees knows the problem: the car is covered in honeydew. We reveal how they can remove the sticky excretion of aphids.
If you don't park your car in your own garage, you have to expect nasty surprises. For example, there may be bird droppings on the car. However, this can be removed relatively easily with home remedies. It gets a little more unpleasant if you have parked under a lime tree and the car is covered with honeydew. But here, too, tricks help to eliminate it.
Honeydew does not harm the varnish - but attracts fungi
Triggers for the honeydew on the car are aphids. These suck the juice out of the lime leaves and excrete the sticky liquid in the process. Honeydew does not harm the sensitive car paint, but it should be removed as soon as possible.

However, mushrooms feel very comfortable in the sugar solution. This can very well lead to damage, especially if it is the soot fungus. If it is irradiated by the sun, black spots can burn into the paint. In the worst case, only a repainting of the affected car part will help. However, scratches should not be treated with home remedies.
Car wash is often enough to remove honeydew
If the honeydew has not yet dried up, a simple car wash is sufficient. The sticky mass can also be removed from the car with a damp cloth. However, it is important not to rub too brutally, otherwise damage to the paint can occur during cleaning.

If you also treat your vehicle with hard wax, it makes it harder for the honeydew to adhere and can thus remove it more easily. But other tricks also help to remove the sticky liquid from the car:
- Soapy water: If the honeydew is still fresh, mixing dish soap and water can be an alternative to remove the honeydew. Again, it's important to be gentle. Dried honeydew drops should not be scraped off with your fingernails, as this can damage the paintwork.
- Windshield cleaner/glass cleaner: In order to have a clear view again, glass cleaner is also a good idea. Alternatively, you can also remove the honeydew from the windows with special windshield cleaners.
- Detailer: A good solution for on the go, because no water is needed. A microfiber cloth is enough to remove the honeydew residues. In addition, the paint detailer also has a nourishing effect due to the UV block.
- Paint cleaning clay: Clay is not only obese in the children's room. The flexible material is also used again and again in cars. They are available in various abrasiveness (rubbing or abrasive effect). To remove the honeydew, a mild modelling clay is enough. If it is used correctly, there will be no micro-scratches in the paintwork. However, a lubricant is needed so that the mass glides smoothly over the paint.
- Adhesive remover: Special solvents can also be used to remove honeydew from plastic objects, glass surfaces or painted objects. The adhesive remover is applied with a spray bottle. After an exposure time, simply wipe lightly with a damp cloth.
