The police described the condition of a stopped 40-tonne truck as "hair-raising": it had loaded two tractors – completely unsecured and with excess height.

There's no doubt about it: the job as a truck driver is often anything but easy: For example, it is often very difficult to find a suitable parking space for the trailer at the end of the driving times – there is a shortage of thousands of parking spaces, especially along the motorways. The result is incorrectly parked trucks, which in turn are very dangerous for other road users. Many truck drivers also perceive their work as poorly paid and difficult to reconcile with private life, according to a survey conducted by the Federal Association of Road Haulage, Logistics and Waste Management (BGL) in 2021. It becomes critical when security is neglected. As is now the case in an extreme case that took place in Baden-Württemberg.

68 centimetres overheight: 40-tonne truck transports two tractors

On the A5 in the direction of Basel, a patrol near Lahr became aware of a semitrailer truck in front. According to the police, the officers looked at the load of the 40-ton truck "in disbelief". Then, in fact, two truck cabs protruded beyond the upper edge in the loading area – and not too closely: the load exceeded the permissible total height by 68 centimetres.

"Significant damage": Loaded tractor apparently grazed bridges

According to the police, the rear loaded semi-trailer truck already had "significant damage" – presumably caused by driving under bridges where the roof grazed against the structures. But that's not all: According to the police, the loaded semi-trailers were completely unsecured. The journey of the 63-year-old truck driver was thus over. All documents and the vehicle key were confiscated.

However, the fact that such transport can look much more extreme in other countries is shown by a TikTok video that went viral on the platform some time ago.
