The Council of Ministers approved the text of the bill and the enabling law for amendments to the Highway Code and new rules on road safety with a "tightening on wild speed cameras and a hard line for repeat offenders who do not respect the rules". This was announced by the Ministry of Transport. The package, already presented in June and strongly desired by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Matteo Salvini, was examined by the Unified Conference which expressed a favorable opinion and proposed a series of changes. With a view to regulating the use of speed cameras, we are moving towards "a stringent definition on the technical specifications of the devices and their positioning". "At the request of the Mayors - continues the MIT - it is proposed an increase in the pecuniary administrative sanction up to 1,084 euros and the suspension of the driving license from fifteen to thirty days, exclusively in cases where the same person commits the violation of speed limits within the inhabited center for at least twice within a year". In addition, the Unified Conference proposed to intervene with regulation to expand the number of roads suitable for the construction of cycle paths.
Suspended license and fine up to 2,588 euros for mobile phone use
The new rules on road safety propose for the use of mobile phones while driving the tightening of the financial penalty, which goes from the range 165-660 euros to 422-1,697 euros, with suspension of the driving license from fifteen days to two months from the first violation. The MIT makes it known. In case of recidivism in the two-year period, in addition to the suspension of the license from one to three months, already provided for by the current code, the payment of a sum from 644 to 2,588 euros is expected, in addition to a deduction of points from the license: 8 in the event of first violation and 10 points to the second.
Fines for parking spaces instead of disabled people doubled
In the enabling law for amendments to the Highway Code and new rules on road safety, financial penalties will increase in case of parking in places dedicated to the disabled. The MIT announces that they will be raised, for mopeds and two-wheeled motorcycles, to 165-660 euros (now provided from 80 euros to 328 euros) and for the remaining vehicles to 330-990 (now expected between 165 euros to 660 euros). This was one of the requests for amendment by the Joint Conference. Heavier fines will also be provided if you park in the lanes reserved for parking and stopping buses and all local public transport: for mopeds and two-wheeled motorcycles between 87 to 328 euros (now between 41-168 euros) and between 165-660 euros for the remaining vehicles (now between 87 to 344 euros) It will be possible to contest through remote investigations also the violation of the obligation to give priority at pedestrian and cyclist crossings; as well as the violation of the prohibition of stopping and reserved parking, only in cases where the stalls reserved for traffic police, fire brigade and rescue services, pink stalls and stalls reserved for the disabled, electric vehicles, loading / unloading of goods and public transport services are occupied.
