A highway collapsed in the night from Friday to Saturday for more than a hundred meters near Gothenburg in southwestern Sweden. Several vehicles became trapped and three people were slightly injured. The landslide "affected a dozen vehicles, a forest area and a commercial area including a petrol station and a fast food restaurant," said Daniel Lyckelid, an emergency services official in the Gothenburg region.
The most affected area covers an area of 100 meters by 150 meters. But in total, the landslide extends over an area of about 700 meters by 200 meters, according to rescuers. Local media footage shows a wide breach running for more than a hundred meters, with several trucks damaged and tilted while a bus sank into a hole. Large cracks crack in the parking lot of a gas station and the roof of the nearby Burger King fast food restaurant has partially collapsed. A wooded area has been severely subsided.

A preliminary investigation for "aggravated public destruction" has been opened and investigators are to question staff at a nearby construction site where explosions occurred earlier. "It is not certain that there is a link between the blasting, the work on the site and the collapse," said the police. The risk of further landslides cannot be excluded at this stage. The Swedish National Transport Administration is planning a closure of this stretch of the E6 motorway for several weeks.
