Some traffic signs have a black horizontal line. However, this has no decorative or separating purpose, but serves as a guide.
Anyone who travels by car usually has a driver's license – even if some road users manage to drive without it for years or even decades. But the rag alone does not mean that the traffic rules are mastered like the back of their hand. On the contrary, the ADAC has identified massive gaps in the knowledge of motorists. This is also evident on TikTok, where the videos of driving instructors are also very popular. For example, over the black horizontal line on the yellow or white boards on the side of the road.
"Driving instructor Vitor" recently asked his followers on Tiktok about its meaning. The video was viewed around 24,000 times, but there were only eight comments under the clip. Meanwhile, the resolution of the question went viral and reached around 1.6 million users.
Black line announces split exit
But what is the significance of the black horizontal line on the so-called "signposts"? The answer is relatively simple: it indicates that the exit is about to split. The destinations that are above the line can be reached via the left lane. "The lower one refers to the right exit," explains the driving instructor of a Dortmund driving school.

The black horizontal line on the traffic signs is intended to help drivers orient themselves better: "Then you know in advance where you have to classify yourself!"
TikTok users don't know meaning
But for many TikTok users, this seems to be as new as the zipper process in construction sites on the highway. At least many users are surprised in the comments.

Even a professional driver was not aware of the background of the black line on the traffic signs. Others, on the other hand, are surprised that there are motorists who did not know this.:
