"The Ferrari Roma Spider is a car that stands out for its sober lines and a very streamlined silhouette, but at the same time it is a high-performance 2+ car. It is a car that comes from the idea of returning to those clean, essential and also very refined lines that were typical of the Ferrari 250 GT, cars born around a very sporty mechanics, almost racing, but with a style that made history especially in the 50s and 60s. With the Roma Spider we wanted to evoke that spirit, but obviously with a more modern approach but evocative and evocative at the same time". This was stated by Ferrari's design director, Flavio Manzoni, meeting journalists during the international media drives of the new Ferrari Roma Spider that took place in Sardinia.
"The Ferrari Roma - explained Manzoni - presents itself with a line that is a bit 'understated', that is, not showy: we called it a Formula One in evening dress, that is, a Ferrari with which you can go to the theater, in front of La Scala in Milan, showing precisely the most elegant, most refined side of this brand without aerodynamic devices and extreme solutions that are instead decisive when you want to achieve extreme performance. With Roma - added Manzoni - the idea was another: of sobriety, refinement, elegance, but also a suggestive line with an aerodynamic, sensual and soft shape. For example - explained Ferrari's design director - we note that the car does not have a grille, an exasperated grille, as many other front-engine sports cars have. Here we have a prominent and very dynamic effect that characterizes the front of the car while the tail is characterized by a fastback descending profile: a low tail that makes the silhouette of the Ferrari Roma unique and elegant".
On the Ferrari Roma Spider was reintroduced after 20 years the fabric soft top that is now five-layer and that can be customized thanks to refined tailored fabrics and the possibility of selecting contrasting stitching. "This soft-top roof solution, in addition to guaranteeing excellent performance in terms of noise and thermal insulation - underlined Manzoni - has allowed us to maintain the line that is typical of Roma. There was a lot of work to ensure that the profile of the soft top was seamless with respect to the tail itself. So with the roof closed, the car recreates that effect of proportions of balance that the Roma coupé has. In short, at the Centro Stile we have done a long job of taking care of the formal balances and proportions both with open roof and closed roof. The lowered soft top - concluded Manzoni - highlights the very sporty cockpit with two cockpits that envelop the pilot and passenger precisely to highlight the performance that is true sports thanks to the 8hp V620 biturbo engine".
