This week a new zero-impact Mercedes commercial vehicle, the eCitan, will arrive in dealerships, proposed both in the van version, in two lengths, respectively of 4498 mm and 4922 mm, and in the tourer variant. A vehicle that is part of the brand's strategy, which foresees, from 2026, the introduction of the VAN platform. EA, through which it will help accelerate the transition to pure electric.
In fact, forecasts indicate that, starting from 2030, more than 50% of the commercial vehicles sold by the house will be battery-powered. Specifically, the eCitan van, which we tested by simulating commercial deliveries in Rome traffic, driven by a 90 kW electric motor and with 245 Nm of maximum torque, offers a range of up to 284 km in the WLTP cycle, thanks to the 45 kWh battery, which accepts up to 75 kW in direct current, and recharges from 20 to 80% in 38 minutes.
In the cockpit, the family feeling with the Mercedes world stands out through the multifunction steering wheel, the instrumentation, and the evolution of connectivity that uses the MBux system.
There is no shortage of driving aids, since hill start assist and attention assist are standard, while other devices such as blind spot assist are part of the accessories.
The load capacity and payload are comparable to those of the Citan models with a conventional engine. For the compact van it is 2.9 cubic meters and up to 460 kilograms, while for the long model of 3.7 cubic meters and up to 660 kilograms.
Among the strengths of this electric van we point out the sliding door with wide opening, the reduced height of the load threshold of 57 centimeters, and the two sections of the tailgate that can be locked at 90 degrees and rotated laterally up to 180 degrees.
Among the accessories, the tailgate is also available.
In terms of prices, the eCitan van starts from 38,742 euros + VAT of the long version, and reaches 40,276 euros + VAT of the extra long variant.
The starting cost of the eCitan tourer long, however, is 40,299 euros + VAT. There is also a form of leasing for the eCitan long from 38,742 euros with a fixed tan of 3% and tag of 3.56%.
This provides for an advance of 6,044 euros, and a fee of 48 months / 80,000 km, with a price ranging from 450 to 315 euros, if you are in possession of a vehicle euro 3 that allows access to the state eco-incentive of 6,000 euros.
