Scenes of chaos in the streets of Philadelphia, Tuesday, September 26. Several stores, including an Apple Store, a Foot Locker and pharmacies were looted and ransacked by a mob of young people in the city center. Alerted around 20 p.m., the police intervened and arrested about twenty individuals.
The violence erupted shortly after the end of a peaceful demonstration to protest the dropping of charges against police officer Mark Dial. On August 14, he shot and killed Eddie Irizarry, a 27-year-old driver, during a check. For the authorities, there is no direct link between the two events. "It has nothing to do with the protests. What we had tonight was a bunch of criminal opportunists," Philadelphia Police Commissioner John Stanford said at a news conference.
