He has not yet explained his action. Three teachers and a student were wounded by a knife Thursday morning in a high school in Jerez de la Frontera, Andalusia (Spain), about thirty kilometers from Cadiz. A 14-year-old boy was arrested, suspected of being the perpetrator, reports RTVE, Spanish public media.
The attack took place around 8:25 a.m. in the school. According to the EFE news agency, a teacher was stabbed in the eye and had to be hospitalized. The other three victims were taken care of by the emergency services with injuries of various severity, several ambulances and police officers were seen near the establishment, says Antena 3. The main suspect was quickly located by police.
An act with still unexplained motivations
Shortly before taking action, he was "very angry" at the back of his class, when he extracted "knives" from his bag, a student witness told EFE. "Then he started targeting everyone, even the teacher, whom he hit in the eye. He almost hit one of my friends and another was shot in the forearm. And my physics and chemistry teacher got hit in the head," he said.
The student was not known for behavioural problems, but was "often alone". For the moment, the motives of his action are not known. It must now be made available to the juvenile prosecutor's office. The police sources cited by RTVE also report that checks on the exact age of the minor are underway in order to know the potential prosecution to which he is exposed: if he is under 14 years old, the penalties will not be the same.
The school was temporarily evacuated, the students of the high school were gathered in the patio while their parents were invited to pick them up to take them home, classes being suspended for the day, says El Pais.
