The Tesla Model Y is being built at the Gigafactory in Grünheide. Now the plant is getting a second model. This was announced by Elon Musk during a visit.
In March 2022, Tesla opened its Gigafactory in Grünheide near Berlin. Since then, the Model Y has been rolling off the assembly line there, albeit not yet in the desired quantities. However, the U.S. carmaker wants to further expand its production. In the future, the planned entry-level model will also be built in Germany. The car is said to cost 25,000 euros.
The Gigafactory in Brandenburg would thus be the electric car's second production facility. Originally, the still unnamed model was to be built in Mexico first, as Teslamag writes. According to Elon Musk's biography, however, Texas is now to be given preference and then Grünheide will follow.

Musk personally informed the workforce of the plans during a factory visit on Friday, Reuters writes, citing a person familiar with the process. The news also quickly made the rounds on X and was shared by users Andre Fink and Gigafactory Berlin News. It is possible that the electric car will then roll off the assembly line in a new hall. Tesla had already applied for a multi-stage expansion in March.

The Tesla boss did not give a time frame during his visit. However, it is likely to take some time, because only last year the project was put on hold due to unresolved issues. In the meantime, however, some answers seem to have been found. Tesla is said to be on the verge of pressing the underbody in one piece, as Reuters writes. An important step towards reaching the targeted price of 25,000 euros.

Stellantis is even planning a big offensive: Citroën, Fiat and Opel are all to build affordable electric cars. The C3 is expected to be available as early as spring 2024 for 23,300 euros. A version for 2025,19 euros is to follow in 990. VW is also planning a low-priced electric car for less than 2,25 euros with the ID. 000all. Tesla is therefore under pressure if it wants to continue to contest shares with the traditional volume manufacturers.
