Dacia Bigster. Big Brother with 7 places coming in 2025/Dacia

The launch of the first Duster in 2010 marked a revolution in the history of Dacia, which for the first time launched a model that was not only relatively cheap, but also desirable in its own way, offering excellent value for money in a fashionable market segment, which has become the largest in Europe. In 2017, the second generation was launched and now the third generation has been revealed, which will arrive in Israel during 2024.

Since then, 2.2 million Dusters have been produced, and even today 1,000 units are emitted from the production line in Romania. Since the relaunch of Dacia in Israel under the wings of Renault and importer Frisbee, about 12,20 Dusters have been sold in Israel.

The new generation purports to maintain the formula of its predecessors but to perfect it: an attractive price starting at 2025,7 euros, like a super mini car, but with a contemporary design derived from Dacia's concept car, the Bigster from two years ago, which will become a 4-seater crossover in 4, which will put Dacia for the first time against respectable vehicles such as Skoda Kodiak and Mitsubishi Outlander.

Is it worth buying the current Duster in the meantime, or as used?

10.1" multimedia screen and improved material quality / Dacia

The new Duster will be the younger brother of the future Bigster, with 5 seats, but with a tougher design than before, based on the latest platform from Renault. The dimensions remained almost identical, with a length of 4.34 m (unchanged), 1.80 m wide (+1), a height of 1.66 m (-3) and a wheelbase of 2.66 m (-1). The luggage compartment, on the other hand, increased from 445 to 472 liters.

Interior: Another upgrade in design and material quality, with a 7- or 10.1-inch multimedia screen, and a 7-inch screen integrated into the instrument panel. There is also an Android Auto and Apple CarPlay pairing with a wireless connection, remote software updates, and more. There are also smartphone holders, tablets and other original accessories, which will be offered as standard in the high finish level, and as an addition to others.

Safety: Duster reduces the gap from modern crossovers, getting autonomous emergency braking for the first time, including pedestrian and cyclist detection. There is also automatic high light active lane departure correction. On the other hand, cruise control is still normal and not adaptive, there is no emergency braking when reversing and warning of child forgetfulness. This Duster won't be able to get the five-star rating in the European crash test either, but it's likely to get more than one single star from the previous generation.

Propulsion: For the first time since 2010, no diesel Duster will be produced. The new Duster will be available with hybrid powertrain, the same system already familiar from Renault, Nissan and Dacia Jogger models, with a 1,600cc petrol engine and an electric motor producing a combined 141 hp, and a special automatic transmission with 4 gears for the petrol engine and 2 for electric. Thus, for the first time, the Duster gets both an economical hybrid unit (fuel consumption figures have not yet been released) and an automatic transmission.

The main petrol engine will be a 1,600cc mild hybrid turbo petrol (48 volts), producing 130 hp, mated to a 6-speed manual transmission, this will be the only version to offer a choice of front-wheel drive that the rest will also have for all-wheel drive.

There will also be a 1,000cc, 100 hp, manual turbo petrol engine optimized for natural gas.

All-wheel drive in a 1.3-litre mild hybrid 130 hp manual. Will remain the cheapest 4x4 in the country/Dacia

Off-road: 21 cm ground clearance in the front-wheel drive model and 22 cm in the dual, which will also come with a drive mode selector, which includes a choice of snow, sand/mud, off-road, automatic and economical modes, where power transfer changes according to the terrain, and a downhill control system that maintains a constant speed (up to 30 km/h) depending on the driver's choice.

Price: The current Duster increases in Israel from NIS 114,1 for a 3.125-liter manual, from NIS 1,3 for 130.4 dual-clutch robotic gasoline, and from NIS 4,175 for a manual 3x0 diesel. The big question is how expensive he will be when he arrives in Israel in a little more than six months. Dacia is now enjoying great commercial success in Europe, which is reflected in its pricing. A modern model such as the Jugger Hybrid Auto costs NIS 10,<> in Israel and is very expensive for the brand, and Sandro Stepway has not yet been launched in Israel two years after its launch due to the price issue. Hopefully, the Duster <>.<> won't get more than <>% more expensive, so that it really gets to us in the middle of next year and can maintain the market-breaking price tag it has today.
