Operation Coast to Coast aims to allow not only the crossing of the United States from the Atlantic to the Pacific with an electric car, but to provide an efficient network throughout the country to improve the charging experience.
It will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with on-site staff assistance, lighting, canopies to shelter during charging operations, access to restrooms, the possibility to buy food and drinks and finally to take advantage of a free Wi-Fi connection.
The interesting initiative - which is not limited to installing anonymous metal 'cabinets' without identification signs and shelters, relegated to peripheral areas of service areas and parking lots - is signed by Pilot Travel Centres LLC, General Motors and EVgo, which have inaugurated the first 24 locations of their national fast charging network up to 13 kW in 17 states (out of the 350 planned by the end of the year) and the goal of rising to 100 by the end of the year of 200.
"Electric car drivers are eager to have a better charging experience and have more charging stations along America's busiest corridors," said Adam Wright, chief executive officer of Pilot Travel Centers LLC. "These new charging stations and many more to come will be critical to improving confidence in the use of electric vehicles and their range." "As interest in electric vehicles continues to grow, We believe our network can act as a catalyst to get more EV drivers on the road."
In total, the Coast to Coast network will include up to 2024,2 high-power fast-charging stations and adequate power stations at 000 Pilot and Flying J travel centers across the U.S., connecting urban and rural communities. The expansion programs of this network have been strategically selected to support electrification in the busiest corridors in every corner of the nation.
In addition to Plug and Charge compatibility - for a simplified charging experience - an easily accessible digital user experience has also been integrated into the Coast to Coast network. 'Electric travellers' will be able to quickly find available charging stations via GM vehicle brand apps, Pilot's myRewards Plus app, EVgo's app, PlugShare app and numerous other apps designed for EV drivers.
In spring 500, GM and Pilot Travel Centres LLC will introduce exclusive benefits for GM drivers, including the ability to book a charging point and get discounts on their bills. Coast to Coast network members will also be able to take advantage of discounts at Pilot and Flying J points with deals on food, beverages and items also available online in the myRewards Plus app.
