The husband of a pensioner from Isère, found strangled to death at her home in Velanne (Isère) at the end of August, was indicted on Friday for murder, we learned from the prosecutor of Grenoble Éric Vaillant. The man was "indicted and incarcerated", the magistrate said, confirming information from the Dauphiné Libéré.
Two other people were arrested on Wednesday, also in connection with the murder investigation. One of them was released on Thursday morning.
Burglary trail ruled out
The regional daily recalls that the body of this 74-year-old woman was found on August 30, hidden under an overturned bed, by the baker during his rounds. She had been strangled, according to autopsy results. Initially, investigators thought it was a robbery gone wrong.
On average, a femicide occurs every three days in France. Last year, 118 women were killed by their spouses or ex-spouses. A total of 244,300 victims of domestic violence, the vast majority of whom are women, have been identified by the police, an increase of 15% compared to 2021, interpreted by associations as a sign that their voices are better taken into account.
