The deceased is a 47-year-old woman from Colmar. No other victims were reported in this incident, which occurred in the middle of the Christmas market, a traditionally very touristic period in Alsace. About sixty firefighters were mobilized.
An Open Psychological Unit
The mayor of Colmar, Eric Straumann, told the regional daily L'Alsace that 17 people, including Spaniards and Swiss, most of whom live in furnished tourist accommodation nearby, will have to be rehoused.
A psychological unit has been set up in a nearby restaurant to accommodate people in the building.
