"I am subjected to these attacks and these accusations for which I am innocent," host Sébastien Cauet, accused of rape and sexual assault, defended himself on Sunday on the set of BFMTV. "Everything is false, everything is a lie," he said, after the broadcast of the testimony of one of the complainants.

"When we saw the complaint coming from this young lady, we filed a complaint for slanderous denunciation and attempted extortion. Damning documents were passed on to the police. The investigation is ongoing," the host added. "It's a set-up," he said of images claimed by a complainant to be screenshots of sexual text messages exchanged with the host.

This is the first time Sébastien Cauet has spoken out since complaints of rape and sexual assault were filed against him. The investigation, initially opened on the basis of a complaint filed on 18 November at the Bourg-en-Bresse prosecutor's office, is now in the hands of the Paris prosecutor's office, and entrusted to the Juvenile Brigade of the capital's judicial police. The three complaints, by three different women, allege rape and sexual assault.

The host's lawyers said in a statement that their client had filed a complaint for "attempted extortion by an organized gang, slanderous denunciation, forgery and use against unnamed persons" and that he "totally disputes" the facts.

A "temporary removal of antennas"

The host agreed with NRJ "by mutual agreement" to "temporarily withdraw from the airwaves" of the radio. The complaint for two rapes was revealed by the magazine L'Obs. It was filed by a 25-year-old woman named Julie, who explained that the incident occurred when she was a teenager in 2014. She told BFMTV that when she met the host with the desire to do radio, he asked her for fellatio, which after an initial refusal she granted against her will.

The host has been a well-known figure in radio comedy since his debut on Fun Radio in the early 1990s. At the height of his popularity, he presented a second-part evening talk show on TF1 from 2003 to 2008, "La méthode Cauet".
