A scene worthy of an action movie in the middle of a restaurant. A man in his thirties, who allegedly threatened customers at a restaurant in Toulon, was later seriously injured by police who, according to the prosecutor, returned fire after being targeted. The man is currently hospitalized and his prognosis is life-threatening, Toulon public prosecutor Samuel Finielz told reporters.
"The first elements would tend to indicate that this individual threatened the customers of a restaurant with a weapon, wanting to enter this restaurant (...) This led to the intervention of police officers," the prosecutor explained.
Two investigations opened
The police then found him a few hundred metres away and this man "allegedly opened fire in the direction of the police officers", who then asked him to "drop his weapon" before proceeding to "return fire" which seriously hit him, according to Samuel Finielz.
Two investigations have been opened, one for attempted intentional homicide against persons holding public authority, entrusted to the judicial police of Toulon, and another "to clarify the conditions of use of weapons by police officers" which will be carried out by the police of the police, the General Inspectorate of the National Police (IGPN).
