"In 2020, it's the worst job," says Alexandre (the first name has been changed). The young man does not mince words to describe his working conditions as a deliveryman for an Amazon subcontractor.
Each day, he delivers a hundred parcels to confined Parisians without having "received anything to protect themselves [...] No gloves, no mask". To work, he wears black gloves, his own. His company was unable to supply all of its employees. “There weren't enough. So first come, first served ”.
"It is very precarious and we have enormous pressure"
The American company has however officially restricted the delivery of certain non-essential products. However, the number of packages to be delivered continues to increase. Another delivery man in the north of France says that he delivered 197 parcels during the day of March 25. Among the recipients, many elderly people.
After six months working as a delivery man, Alexandre confides that he would like to land and change jobs. "It is very precarious and we have enormous pressure". They sense that the confinement will last much longer than two weeks "I will see if I want, or if I crack, I don't know". For now, Alexandre is forced to go to work every morning, despite the confinement.
